Periodic Inspections
&
Testing
What is a periodic inspection and why is it required?
A periodic inspection (often called a Periodic Inspection Report or EICR) is a detailed assessment of your electrical installation. In Ireland, electrical contractors must be
registered with Safe Electric, the statutory regulatory scheme for electrical work. The inspection checks for deterioration, defects, non‑compliance with current standards, and potential safety risks.
How often should I get a periodic inspection done?
Homeowners: Every 10 years
Landlords: Every 5 years or at change of tenancy
Commercial properties: Typically every 5 years
These are general guidelines; older properties may need more frequent checks.
Do I need a Safe Electric registered contractor for an inspection?
Yes. Only a
Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) can legally carry out and certify controlled electrical works in Ireland.
Will the inspection disrupt my power?
Yes, but only temporarily. Circuits must be isolated during testing. We minimise downtime and keep you informed throughout.
What happens if my installation fails the inspection?
You’ll receive a report outlining any issues (e.g., potential hazards, non‑compliance). We will explain the findings and provide a quote for any remedial work required to bring the installation up to Safe Electric standards.
Electrical Safety Inspections
Our thorough inspections identify potential hazards and code violations, helping you maintain a secure electrical environment and comply with regulations.
